¿WHAT IS SEMABO?
SEMABO stands for Seres Mas Bondasos which translates to Kindest Beings.
SEMABO is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide support to local children and families battling in the fight against childhood cancer.
WHAT IS OUR STORY?

The project was born with the mission to honor the memory of Sebastián Martínez Bonilla, who passed from this life after just seven years, leaving a great legacy of love and kindness for Mexican children suffering from cancer..
Sebastián was diagnosed in 2021 with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Despite all efforts, receiving top-level medical care, and the remission of the disease, on June 17, 2021, Sebastián spread his wings, leaving his legacy in this project.
LEAD BY EXAMPLE

SEMABO’s first project was created by Sebastián himself during his hospital stay. From his own experience, he identified and shared the need to compassionately face the chemotherapy process from the emotional perspective of both children and their families together.
Sebastián understood the psychological effect that the use of anesthetic cream and modeling clay during treatment has on the entire environment. Not only do they help patients relax, make veins easier to find, and reduce the routine pain of injections, but they also lessen the perception of fear and strengthen the emotional capacity of the whole family to face the process.
With this, he invited us to launch a small campaign in which he prepared kits containing the cream and Play Doh, accompanied them with handwritten encouragement letters, and requested that they be distributed in a public hospital. From there, he left us a legacy and laid the foundation for facing this disease from a different perspective — combatting suffering with empathetic and comprehensive support, not only for the patients but also for their families.
At SEMABO, we work so that all children and families facing childhood cancer have a space for emotional support, resources, and assistance to cope with everything involved. From helping to obtain medication, providing a network of emotional support for families, to supporting those who come from out of town with shelter and a dignified place to go through treatment. We strive to be a comprehensive support organization from diagnosis to recovery, reintegration into life, or even to be a comforting refuge if a child passes away. At the same time, we aim to raise awareness among as many people as possible to become “Kindest Beings” in the face of life.
SEMABO PHISOLOPHY

OUR GOAL
SEMABO’s goal is to become the most trusted organization for comprehensive care of families affected by childhood cancer in Mexico

MISSION
Provide comprehensive support for the entire family, addressing not only the patient but also the primary caregivers and the family unit, all of whom are deeply affected by a disease like cancer.

VISION
To be an institution that improves the quality of life for children with cancer and their families, from the moment of diagnosis through post-treatment family reintegration, by providing support from a multidisciplinary team addressing emotional well-being, health, nutrition, educational assistance for patients, and family self-employment opportunities, among other services.

MILESTONES
To achieve this, one of our main projects is to cover the monthly expenses at Casa SEMABO (shelter that we inaugurated this year, 2025, to support all the children who come from other states in the country to receive treatment in the city’s public hospitals). Travel, lodging, and food costs in Mexico City often become expenses that many families cannot afford. The goal of creating this space is to offer accommodation, meals, recreation, and support to all families of out-of-town children undergoing treatment.
We need to reach this goal without neglecting our ongoing local efforts to provide exemplary care to our children and their families through permanent support programs, awareness campaigns to raise funds, integration events to consolidate efforts, and serving as a liaison connecting families with sponsors, resource generators, personalized information, our network of contacts, and even other institutions to offer truly comprehensive support to patients and their families.
